The Bloom Series came from an idea based on experiences with the kiln. With other projects, I had a few pieces warping, as clay will do this as it is exposed to heat. Instead of fighting the warp, I have tried to work with the natural movement that occurs with the clay. At the same time I had been developing the "fans", so extensions on the vase form took on another meaning. The "tendril" of the bloom moves outward and literally blooms in the kiln. Each bloom opens at different rates, depending on the weight and the length of the tendril. The painted surfaces are much like the "Fans" with custom engobes that are hand-painted and stenciled. Wholesale available and are one-of-a-kind. |
