PAULA COLLINS
REMPALSKI CERAMICS

Paula Collins has been creating ceramic artwork for over thirty years. She holds a BA in Art from San Diego State. After retiring from a twenty -five year career in railroading she began her new adventure in living out a lifelong dream of creating art and selling it!

She is currently showing her work at festivals throughout the western United States. She has received numerous awards in her category of ceramic sculpture.

Paula enjoys working with scale and morphing her figures into “others”, a kind of magical thinker, ignoring certain held boundaries in nature. She enjoys the freedom that clay allows in exploring the “otherness” found in nature.

Each piece is carefully thought through as she approaches her glazing techniques. Many applications of custom glazes and washes are applied. Kiln firings are generally, but not limited to, 2000 degrees firing range. The most exciting outcomes generally come through layering her colors, much like an oil painter. As the layers are applied, a texture forms on the surface of her pieces adding an organic feel to her compositions.

As Paula’s art progresses she becomes fearless in her approach, trying on new techniques in her expression. Compositions thus include found objects, nichrome wire, wood, and glass. Using image transfers and mixed media has fed into her magic and exploration in mud.
